LIFE STORY

Firstly thanks for stumbling on my website and for clicking on this page to hear my life story. I will try and keep it short...

Me...

Secondly, my name is Olly, from Mudgley and I am a father. I have always found myself interested in photography. All the way back to my youth at Strode College in Street hiding away in the darkroom developing camera films shot using my dad's old Pentax (which I lost...). However, back then being a teenage skateboarder, with minimal money and confused about what I wanted to do with my life I never fully immersed myself in the world of photography.

Since 2006 (20 years ago when I was at college! Wow that sounds old) life has changed rapidly. I am now a married man to my wonderful wife Sarah who has blessed us with two beautiful children. Ralph who has just turned 4 and the new addition to the family baby Margot who is just over 6 months old. Not to mention a very hyper 7-year-old cockapoo called Otis.

Why Now?

During the first covid lockdown in March 2020, the world flipped upside down for many of us who were all affected by it in some way or another. I was put on the furlough scheme by my employer for the best part of 6 weeks. Sarah was a key worker and her work was not affected so I made the most of this strange period to do as much with Ralph as I could. Weirdly I felt very lucky in some ways to be able to spend so much quality time with Ralph so I tried to make the most out of this opportunity and did not take it for granted.

At the time, just turned two, we started regularly going to the woods together to have picnics and snacks, build dens, mushroom hunting and genuinely playing around in the outdoors. I started using my phone to document our adventures and projects whilst sharing them on Instagram. I then decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to a proper (grown uppish) camera. It was at this point the addiction began and since then I have spent a small fortune on new lenses and camera gear to slog around with me. I am now officially (20 years later) well and truly immersed in the photography world...

What I Like

I don't want to sound to cliche on this part and go into some philosophical reasoning behind why I enjoy it. I like the outdoors, being active, nature and documenting it. Photographing things I like, and the whole process of taking the photo, getting home, looking through them, and editing them to make them look as visually captivating as possible to me! And that's the thing it's for 'me' which is the reason I like doing this and if other people enjoy the end result and can relate to it then all the better. Photography is an art form to be seen and shared for all to see which is why I share what I do. If anyone wants to come and join me for a coffee or a beer in the woods sometime, eat some alfresco grub, do some bushcraft then I welcome you to join me. I will be there....running backward and forwards from a tripod and camera on a 10 second timer....
